beautiful broken rules

beautiful broken rulesIt’s no secret that I loved Beautiful Broken Rules, and Jaxson and Emerson together were one of my favorite book couples.  Jaxson with his palm love notes, and Emerson who owned who she was without shame and with purpose.  So, I am more than extremely happy to welcome Kimberly Lauren to the blog today to talk about Beautiful Broken Rules and what might be next for this cast of characters.

Interview

RRE:  Kimberly, welcome to Romantic Reading Escapes.  I am so happy that you are here and have agreed to answer a few questions for your fans.  I love that Emerson is not an innocent, inexperienced protagonist.  How did you come up with such a different and completely opposite type heroine from the heroines we see trending in contemporary fiction today?

KL:  I’ve probably read way too many romance novels (is that possible?) but the majority of the time you read about the promiscuous boy and the virginal girl. I started thinking, ‘Surely, this happens the other way around right?’ I liked the idea of a female lead that actually knew what she liked.

RRE:  Well, Emerson certainly stands out in a genre filled with virginal heroines, and I’m so glad you took the risk.  The cover art for Beautiful Broken Rules was stunning and fit Jaxon and Emerson perfectly in my eyes.  Can you tell us who designed it and why you decided on that particular image/artwork?

KL:  I can’t even tell you how many images I looked through. This one is by a photographer named Emir Memedovski who does fabulous black and white images. The fact that she is kissing him and not the other way around was probably the winning element for me to choose it. I wanted to show her take-charge attitude even though Jaxon is the one who ultimately has to show her how to love.

RRE:  Yes!  I love how he captured her forwardness as well as her confidence.  As much as I loved Emerson, Jaxon won my heart completely with his palm notes.  That one simple palm note that said, “Mine.”  *swoon*  Please tell me, who is your favorite character from Beautiful Broken Rules and why?

KL:  Favorite character?!?!  Now that’s just mean, haha.  I really do love Jaxon to pieces and if you would have asked me this question 4 weeks ago, I would have said without a doubt Jaxon is my favorite. But, now I’m so far in Jace’s head writing his book and Jaxon’s being a bit of jerk, so while I love BOTH Riley boys, Jace is more on my good side at the moment.

RRE:  Oh!  I’m so excited to learn that you are in Jace’s head!!  While Jax is probably my favorite character, I really loved them all and feel like they are close friends in my heart; they had such comradery.  Jace particularly interests me because there’s a mystery surrounding him.  I understand Jace’s book is next; what can you tell us about Jace and is there a romance in his future?

KL:  There is romance in his future! I’m so excited for him to have his girl.  Jace is definitely a mystery. He has secrets that he keeps from everyone, even Jaxon. He has a hard time coming into his own skin in the next one, but I feel that his heroine is strong enough to give him the push he needs.

RRE:  I can’t wait to read Jace’s book and witness his secrets, and it looks to be gripping as well.  Do you have anything envisioned for the rest of the characters?

KL:  All of the characters will be present in the next book. I feel like they have such a wonderful bond and I hate when they are apart from each other. While, I still don’t know how far into the future I will take them, they have plenty of adventures to take in Jace’s book.

RRE:  If I can prod you just a little, I would love to see you take these characters farther in future books.  You definitely have a fan in me for these characters.  Just for fun, what do you consider an interesting or fun fact about Beautiful Broken Rules?

KL:  Emerson is actually a true story based off of me. Gotcha! I’m joking. I am surprised that some people wanted to see more of Em’s promiscuity in action. I felt that even though she wouldn’t admit it, just meeting Jaxon changed her. It was probably best she didn’t continue her ways after being with Jaxon. I don’t think that would have gone over very well.

RRE:  OMG, you almost had me with your joking!  *exhales long breath*  I agree with you that Jax changed her, and I just can’t fathom her going back to her old self.  But my mind is reeling about the type of woman you have envisioned for Jace.  Want to spill the beans a little?  No?  Okay, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.  Aside from Jace’s book, what can we expect from you in the future?

KL:  I plan to continue the “Broken” series with stand-alone novels. Jace’s will probably be the only one that I would suggest you read the first before you read his, but I hope that it can stand on its own for the most part. I understand people will miss these characters (as will I) but I do have other stories to tell from characters you will meet along the way and hopefully love just the same.

RRE:  I can’t wait to read your future stories.  Your writing was flawless, and I predict a long and successful career as an author for you.  What can readers who enjoy Beautiful Broken Rules do to help make it successful?

KL:  I’m actually amazed by how awesome they have already been. Word of mouth is really the best thing. When they write reviews, their friends see and then they end up reading it as well. Most of the readers, who have read BBR so far, started it because someone they knew loved it. So, I can’t thank you guys enough for telling everyone how much you enjoyed it. An indie-author can only promote so much- the rest is left up to you guys!

RRE:  You heard it, readers!  Talk books!  I’m personally recommending that you read this book, leave a review on Goodreads and the place of purchase, and talk about this book!  Kimberly, is there anything else you want to say to your fans?

KL:  From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. When I finally decided I would take a go at the self-publishing gig, I thought to myself it would be cool if 25 people I didn’t know read my book. Obviously I underestimated the power you guys hold! You’re amazing.

RRE:  Kimberly, I can’t thank you enough for taking time out of your busy schedule to indulge your fans and me.  I really look forward to reading more of your work in the future, and I can’t wait to read Jace’s book.

About the author:

I’m a wanderer, an adventurer, a traveler.

I want to see it all. I haven’t been everywhere but it’s on my list.

“She travels the world & home is always in her heart.”

Lately if I’m not traveling or chasing a toddler, I’m writing. Which is weird because I hated writing in college. Oh wait, that’s because that was boring. Who really wants to sit there and cite all your sources into APA format? Not this girl. Writing for yourself is enjoyable and cathartic. Please try it. Then tell me about because I love indie authors.

When I was 19, I packed up and followed my high school sweetheart from Texas to California. We had a blast living it up in San Diego. Four years later we made a crazy decision and packed up again and moved to Germany. What? Yep, you read that right. Guess what? Best decision ever! We OWNED Europe. For three years we saw as much as we possibly could. It was the most amazing time of my life. Please go out there and see the world, you won’t regret it. After Europe we moved back to California, and for now we’re just debating our next adventure.

I earned a degree in Child Development. And now I write novels. Makes perfect sense! I write because I walk around all day with these stories in my head. It’s nice to be able to get them out of my head in an organized fashion. I hope that someone out there enjoys them, because I have enjoyed so many others.

Synopsis:

What happens when you create rules to keep others out?

One thing Emerson Moore has come to terms with is that she is the school slut. She knows her way around a frat house and how to get what she wants. She doesn’t make any excuses for her actions and she doesn’t pretend to be anything different. She is who she is and with that she knows how to have a good time. She’s made rules to keep relationships at bay and avoid the demons of her past.

When her best friend, Cole has his two friends from back home move in with him she begins to think she has met her match with Jaxon Riley. Jax is the perfect mixture of tattooed muscle and a sweet-talking mouth. With “hand” written notes, a voice that exudes sex and knowing just how to get under her skin, Jaxon learns how to break all the rules. But will he just end up breaking her heart anyway?

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance – recommended for ages 18 and up.
